What’s Isesaki Meisen
Isesaki Meisen is a traditional silk fabric known for its production in Isesaki City of Gunma Prefecture. Even by global standards the heiyou-gasuri technique boasts a high level of sophistication. It features vividly colorful and uniquely playful patterns and hues. We create original bags by combining several types of heiyou-gasuri.
What’s Kogin Zashi
Tsugaru Kogin Zashi is a traditional sashiko (hand embroidery) technique passed down in the Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture. It is considered one of Japan’s three major sashiko styles. This technique involves embroidering geometric patterns with pure white cotton threads onto linen dyed with indigo. Each design carries various prayers and thoughts of the farmers who created them. We have combined Kogin Zashi with old Japanese garments and textiles from different parts of Asia to express the beauty of old Japan.
We express the traditional beauty of Japan in the form of bags. Additionally, we upcycle discarded Japanese kimonos into practical items.
It’s a one-of-a-kind item. You can’t purchase the same one at any store.
Kimono encapsulates Japanese culture. The delicate, painting-like patterns on kimonos carry various meanings such as longevity, prosperity, and good health. Although it once symbolized everyday wear in Japan, nowadays, it is said that less than 5% of people wear kimono as casual attire.
Kimono is an artistic and traditional garment that many women admire. However, there is also the reality that many unwanted kimonos are being disposed of in large quantities.
Our kimono bags are upcycled from these unwanted kimonos. By rhythmically combining colors and patterns, and adding ikat from various parts of Asia, we design them to appear even more vibrant than the originals.
We hope that many people will appreciate the charm of Japanese traditional clothing and the significance of upcycling by incorporating kimono bags into their everyday fashion.
